[ Shift Handover ]

The incoming shift starts with a record, not a guess

On a multi-shift or continuous-works site, losing context between an outgoing and incoming crew is how rework happens, and how a hazard the day crew found goes unmentioned to the night crew. Novato's Shift Handover is a structured note, work completed, work in progress, open issues, equipment status, that the next shift reads and acknowledges before starting.

How it works

1

Log the handover before the shift ends

What was completed, what's still in progress, and any open issues or hazards the next shift needs to know about.

2

The incoming shift reads it

Work in progress, equipment/materials status, and anything flagged, all in one place, not scattered across texts.

3

They acknowledge it

A real read receipt, timestamped and attributed, confirming the handover was actually seen before the day's not just filed.

How this fits Australian WHS compliance

A timestamped, attributed handover record is real evidence that a known hazard was actually communicated to the next shift, not just noted somewhere and forgotten, which matters if that hazard is ever the subject of an incident investigation.

Common questions

Who is this for?

Sites running multiple shifts or continuous works, civil, tunnelling, shutdowns, multi-day pours, where losing context between crews causes rework or safety misses. Single day-shift sites can still use it for a lighter weekend or trade-to-trade handover.

Can I edit a handover after it's logged?

Yes, until it's been acknowledged by the incoming shift. Once acknowledged, it's locked, since rewriting the content under the incoming shift's nose would defeat the point of the read receipt.

What does "acknowledged" actually mean?

A real read receipt: the incoming shift's lead confirms they've read the handover, attributed to them and timestamped at the moment they did, not just that the record exists.
